(Washington, DC) –Today, Congressman Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), along with Senators Dan Coats (R-Ind.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), welcomed the news that Vectren Fuels received the material license the company needed to open its second underground coal mine, leading to over 100 new jobs in Knox County.
“The 8th District is home to an abundance of natural resources that are vital to Indiana’s energy industry and job creation,” said Bucshon. “As the son of a coal miner, I understand that federal regulation can often be an obstacle for this industry, so I am pleased to have joined with Senators Donnelly and Coats to help this Knox County company navigate the permitting process and create jobs here in Southwest Indiana.”
“Indiana’s energy resources, business-friendly policies and skilled workforce make our state one of the best places in the Midwest for companies to prosper, but often federal regulations can impede economic growth and job creation,” said Coats. “I am pleased the administration has responded to our request for a timely review of this company’s pending license so it can move forward with energy production in southwest Indiana and continue to provide Hoosiers with job opportunities.”

In March, Congressman Bucshon, along with Senators Coats and Donnelly, sent a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission asking for a timely review of the mining company’s material license in order to move forward on this major coal purchase contract. The company received the news that their license was approved in early April.
